Operation Care offers many volunteer opportunities. You CAN make a difference in your community!

Please Note: Any volunteer working in a direct service capacity (which means direct contact with clients) must have the 70-hour state mandated certification training. Operation Care provides this training twice during the year.

Qualifications: All Victim Assistance Program volunteers must demonstrate an ability to communicate with empathy and concern. Volunteers must be patient, nonjudgmental, able to show sensitivity to cultural/ethnic diversity and be responsive to the needs of special populations. The confidentiality of clients must be maintained at all times. Operation Care requires that volunteers have a valid California driver’s license, reliable vehicle and maintain legally mandated automobile liability insurance. Additionally, volunteers must agree to follow all policies and procedures of the agency.

The Victim Assistance Program.
Operation Care’s Victim Assistance Programs work with law enforcement agencies and the criminal justice system to assist victims and witnesses of domestic violence and sexual assault. The programs address physical, emotional, financial and legal issues through crisis intervention and continuing support services.

Volunteers for the Operation Care Victim Assistance Programs work in either the Sexual Assault or Domestic Violence Units. They provide a variety of clerical and counseling services to those individuals directly impacted by these crimes. Following are short descriptions of our volunteer positions.

Court Advocates.
As a court advocate you would provide court related assistance to victims / witnesses of sexual assault and domestic violence and their families. Your duties might include direct assistance to clients, providing information and referrals to appropriate resources, follow-up and general office support. The advocate would assist with Temporary Restraining Orders and / or accompany client to court proceedings as a support person. Duties would include answering telephones, screening clients for appropriate services, copying documents, and assisting clients with actual completion of the TRO paperwork.

Domestic Violence Assistance Program Volunteers.
Volunteers in this unit provide assistance to office staff and victims of domestic violence who are filing Temporary Restraining Orders and who need counseling services. Your duties would include direct assistance and/or counseling to clients, providing information and referrals to appropriate resources, client follow up, accompaniment to social service agencies (as support), and general office duties.

Crisis Line Volunteers.
Volunteers in this unit provide crisis intervention to clients (victim / survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crisisses) on the 24-hour help lines.

Safe House Volunteers.
Provide support to residents of the shelter and to any staff who are on duty.Your duties would include crisis intervention counseling on the help lines, providing information and referrals to callers and residents, maintaining rules and guidelines of the shelter, counseling residents (as needed), providing support groups and/or classes, and general office duties.

Sexual Assault Victim Services Program Volunteers.
As a sexual assault volunteer, you would provide direct assistance to survivors of sexual assault and their families. This is accomplished through responding to help line calls, providing on-scene support at hospitals or assisting staff in the sexual assault offices. Volunteers provide crisis intervention and emergency assistance.

Other Important Volunteer Opportunities

Speaker’s Bureau.
As a Speaker’s Bureau Volunteer your duties would be to assist staff in presenting community education programs throughout Amador County. These would include: agencies, organizations, churches, schools, and individuals. Additionally, volunteers would be asked to help with booths at fairs, etc.

Clerical Assistance.
Providing clerical assistance for the business office staff is crucial in assisting the staff in providing services to victims in the community. We will train.

Seasonal Promotions.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month - Christmas, Adopt a Family Program - Cell Phone and Donate your Car Programs.
